For a change of pace we spent a day at the horse races. The track itself was gorgeous. The clubhouse was also very nice. The food and service were great. We just happened to pick a poor time to be there as it was during San Juan biggest festival of the year so we were one of only two tables in the clubhouse. It would have been much more fun with some energy in the room. If you go, make sure to arrange for a taxi to come back to pick you up since you won't find them outside waiting at the end of the races.
Camarero Race Track is less that 30 minutes from the Airport if you take route 66. If you would like to visit the track in order to enjoy a schedule of races, that normally starts at 3:00p.m. Wednesday thru Sundays I recommend going to the Terrace Room Restaurant in the Second Level or Club House. It has a magnificent view of the track and the tote screen and it has small tv sets in the tables to see the races more closely. The restaurant offers good food and a adequate selection of wines and other alcoholic beverages. Also on that level, there are several teller windows to make your bets. Nearby to the Track is Beltz Outlets so you can enjoy some shopping before of after going to the track. In my opinion it is a nice way to spend a couple of hours on a saturday or sunday to do something different.
We went to celebrate my grandfather's 75th birthday. It was a sunday and there were races scheduled from 3:15pm to 6:00pm. We had dinner at the restaurant, which has glass all around so that guests can enjoy the races while eating and drinking. The prices are fairly reasonable and the service is pretty good. We really enjoyed betting and seeing the horses. It is a fantastic place to go have fun as a family. There is no entrace or parking fee. If you have the time go, you won't regret it.
We went half day to the Hipodromo Camarero to wait here when the sun goes dawn and the night was getting dark to go to the Bio Bay and we really enjoy this also we had a very very good meal.
I'd never been to a horse race track before, but this was really cool. There's no parking or entrance fee. The grounds are well-kept, simple yet elegant. We had dinner in a room with glass walls so it was easy to see everything that was going on down below on the track. Dinner was delicious: tender steak, and the halibut was especially tasty. Service was bit slow, but very friendly. Made one bet and won $30! :) There's a nice display of historical photographs featuring the track's namesake and other "illutrious" horses and jockeys. Will definitely go back. I heard Sundays are the best.
