I had read lots about this place while researching activities online, but when we pulled into the parking lot all we could think was, "what a dump". Perhaps we missed out, but we couldn't even get beyond the exterior to be bothered to go inside. You enter a dirt parking lot that is more suited to off road vehicles rather than the family car. There was a clump of various out buildings in various conditions that we couldn't make sense of what we were looking at. It looked more as though we had just driven into someone's old, private residence vs. a museum. Knowing there was an admission fee, we questioned whether it was worth it and decidedly moved on. I would encourage the operators to make the place more inviting to attract rather than distract visitors.

Yet another beautiful house with an ugly history, which is presented on numerous televisions scattered around the house. There is a lot of interesting stories and anecdotes, but it lacked displays and is small and pricey. Pleased I went, but not sure I would go out of my way to visit.

I found this museum to be worth the visit. It helps to answer the basic questions about the history of Curacao in regards to the slave trade and plantation houses. However be warned about the museum hours of operation. The first time we went we were told that the museum would be closing in 20 minutes at 14:30 even though the sign says 16:00. So the next day we arrived at 8:00 and was told that the museum didnt open until 9:00. But they must have remembered us from the previous day for they allowed us entrance. The audio headsets didnt work but the displays are well labeled with English, Dutch, Papiamento, and Spanish.

The museum was small but was interesting. Some cool items to view and read about. The main plantation house serves as the museum along with a few out buildings. Get the audio device, we did not but should have.

After driving over half the island to visit the museum ( we were stayi at Jan Thiel ) we got to hear that the museum is supposedly closed. We arrived there at 2:30 Pm, and everywhere was wirtten that the museum is open until 4:00 pm. All the green shades were closed, my mom went in, the ladies told her "were already closed" they left us without any explenation why the museum was supposedly closed.

Curaçao is dotted with „Landhuizen”, the old plantation houses, and Savonet is one of them, turned into a museum. The museum tries to tell us about the way of life on an old Curaçao plantation. This is a commendable effort, but not a complete success. In the main building, the functioning of a plantation is brought to life with photographs, artefacts and texts. However, the life of the plantation owner is depicted rather more vividly than that of the workers (slaves at first, liberated slaves later). The fact that the plantation owner’s house is the only building accessible, does not quite help. Maybe the old slave dwellings have all been torn down, maybe they have been converted into more modern houses. As a result, you tend to leave the museum with a lot of unanswered questions. For an extra fee, you may drive around the old plantation. There are two routes to choose from: one going inland and up-mountain, the other skirting the sea. It is sobering to see how little remains of the old plantation and how quickly the whole terrain has reverted to wilderness. Certainly worth the visit and the drive!

A smaller, but interesting museum. There were a couple creepy exhibits here that struck up some interesting conversations. Old plantation. Lots of artifacts and history to be learned here.

Excellent place to visit if you want to get to know more about the history of Curacao and especially the way of life of slaves at this Landhuis. I was a bit disappointed about the open air part because there don't seem to be any slave huts to be visited although the folder did say so.

Interesting stuff but needs some attention as others have stated. It's a good thing entry was free on this "special occasion" for the Savonet area. There were some interesting items and write-ups on the walls. Also, there were video stations where you could sit and watch what I assumed were recordings by locals about the slave trade history. However, the audio was off and no one told us there was anything we could do to hear it. So we just wandered from room to room reading the articles on the walls and looking at the artifacts. For what seemed like the most comprehensive coverage of the Caribbean slave trade history, visit Kura Hulanda Museum in Willemstad.

There is clearly a very interesting story to be told with the artifacts but the design of this museum is very poor. There is no clear direction through the exhibits and the audio guide pieces are long, rambling and frequently wander off topic. There are some interesting pieces but it requires some digging to get there. With some work this museum could be a good attraction, but as it is now, it would be a disappointment if you go out of your way to see it.

I'm a history buff...visit the museum first, then drive around the grounds. Rent the recorders that give a verbal presentation of the exibits. Makes you realize just how hard life was on the plantation. it's recently opened, and needs some more attention, but a good attraction.

Interesting look back at some of the early plantation history of Curacao. The museum is still relatively new and will only get better. It is well worth stopping off on your way to Sheta Boka National Park.

The people at the museum and in Christoffel Park are super sweet. The museum is interesting and the park, beautiful. The sights, animals, flora and fauna are amazing. We even saw flamingos! A lot of walking. The four-wheel ride is bumpy and the terrain at the shore in the park is pretty hard to walk on ~ not suitable for those with a walker or cane.

I visited Savonet Plantation on an excursion from a cruise ship. The restoration of the buildings themselves is very good. Right now they have many boxes around the place because they're getting ready to make it into a museum with many thing to look at. It was interesting, but will probably be better in the future.
