We liked the surrounding nature at the riverside. Boattrips are offered for different prices, so ask around.

We went whitewater rafting on the Sarapiqui with an outfit out of La Fortuna (Desafio). They were fantastic tour guides and the run down the river, which includes class-III and IV rapids, was exhilarating and fun. Be prepared to do a bit of work as paddling for 2-1/2 hours, although intermittent, can be exhausting. Our tour included lunch at a roadside cafe near the take-out point. You will get drenched so don't bring anything (camera, phone) you don't want completely soaked and possibly submerged. This was so much fun my daughters and I were tempted to do it again. Maybe a return to Costa Rica is in order....

Rafting is something to do in Costa Rica. It's a great way to experience the natural environment. The Sarapiqui River, at least the section I rafted, was class 2/3 -- some thrills but not at all sufficient for true adrenaline seekers. The water temperature was perfectly enjoyable. This would be a good river for families with kids over, say, 8 years old. My 6-year-old would be terrified.

Did 9mi with Desafio as our guides. Great river and a lifelong memorable time!! River as a great mix of small drops, extended rapids, and rest areas. The scenery is to die for!!

We had a fantastic time on the river Sarapiqui with the wonderful Walter who guided us safely but also with plenty of excitement through the grade 2 and 3 rapids. Kids were very impressed by the "superman" rapid. Don't miss out.

Our intrepid team of 5 headed off with Flow Tours to white water raft the Sarapiqui River. The rains had just started and the flow down the river was great especially for first timers. Never once did we feel unsafe as our guide Rohland was exceptional. He made the trip fun and full of laughter and exhilarating. At the half way mark we stopped to have a swim and were given the most mouthwatering pinapple I have ever tasted. It was all over before it began. Thank you for an unforgettable experience.

Took a boat tour of this river on Christmas day. Nice, calm and relaxing ride. Make sure to bring a DSLR camera with a telephotos lens to take high quality pictures. The other passengers on the boat were disappointed that they brought their point-and-shoot camera and couldn't get the range or sharpness in their photos. I recommend this boat ride in the Sarapiqui River for single travellers, couples and families.

We took an easy boat ride on the Sarapiqui River to view birds and we got to see more than 20 varieties. Also a caiman on the shore. The water line was very very low so the boat driver had to navigate the waters slowly which was better for us since we fell upon a family of howlers in the trees and got great pictures. You have to pay in cash so be aware.

We visited the Sarapiqui River as part of an organized tour. We participated in a boat ride during which our guide pointed out monkeys, crocodiles, iguanas and various types of birds. It was a great way to enjoy the river and nature.

The Rio Sarapiqui reminds me of the lovely rushing streams of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

During the second week of August, I travelled to Costa Rica. My mom (56) and I decided (29) decided to do some White Water Rafting. We have NEVER done this before. We went to the Sarapique River which is a hour and a half away from Arenal. We used Desafio for our WWR tour and our tour guide was Frank - our guide was absolutely fantastic and super patient (considering my mother and I were completely out of sync). It was an AMAZING experience – Rapid Class of III and IV. We learned a lot about the history of this area. It was interesting to learn about the earth quake that happened and how it helped to change the flow of the river. Also, I was surprised to learn that it was indeed a dam and that the dam opens at 10AM each day. It was quite fascinating. This is an absolute must if you visit Costa Rica

We book this boat trip with Grey line and I feel fortunate to get this trip, which has not usually appeared in other tour company's recommendation list --- which is unfortunate. The trip is on the boat, it is very safe and not challenge (my mother feels very easy and happy). We see a lot of animals, including crocodile, cayman, lizard, monkeys, which is unique in Costa Rica. I will highly recommend this place, which seems not been well advertised yet.

We took a one day trip from Rainforest Adventures. Drove to, and took the 11/2 aerial cabin ride through the rainforest, outbound on the forest floor level, back at tree top level.A true lifetime experience! Had lunch nearby and met the monkeys close up. Then we took the gentle boat ride up and down the river. We saw birds , iguanas etc. Highly recommend

We went white water rafting on the Sarapiquí River--class III and IV rapids. Amazing river, and I thought it would be much more "treaturous" than it was. The water level was a bit low--but we had a good group of 'paddlers', so it worked out great, and no one fell out of the raft! Great rush--highly recommended on a beautifull sunny day.
