。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。

James.gao

NDZ

All Chinese cities seem to have one of these. The upper part of the buildings did look old but at ground level the shops sold the usual Chinese rubbish. There weren't any souvenir or porcelain shops - not even anywhere for a decent coffee. My advice is to give it a miss altogether.

Before lunch, we were taken to Jingdezhen Old Street [陶瓷一條街] where we bought our souvenirs. Our tour has no tourist traps indicated in the itinerary so this must be it. I bought some cellphone trinkets for my students; we bought necklaces and bracelets for my sisters and the househelp; and my mom bought a porcelain thermos mug for Aunt F. At the Old Street, we also chanced upon many porcelain products made similar to the products of Franz, the internationally renowned Taiwanese brand. I immediately told mom those were Franz imitations but she believed otherwise. I checked the marks on the bottom and I was right. Some of the merchants even bragged that those products, though inferior in craftsmanship, are usable while the actual products of Franz can only be displayed. But I tell you, if you are familiar with Franz, you wouldn't buy those imitations. Incidentally, Franz also maintains a production facility in Jingdezhen, but its Marketing and R&D departments are in Taiwan.

It seems that many towns/cities in China have an Old Street and this one is no different. There are a mix of old and new buildings with most of the flagstone paving covered in tacky market stalls selling modern everyday goods.
